Going before a judge when you have little to no experience in the court system can be a daunting process – and a risky one. Matters before the Small Claims Court (SCC) must follow strict rules of procedure and evidence as well as meet the Courts timelines.
While the SCC is very much a real Court of the Superior Court of Justice, it is a much less formal and more accessible way of dispute litigation. The SCC has jurisdiction to hear cases where the amount being disputed by the parties is $35,000 or less (excluding costs and interest).
